About this Course

Attending this two-day course will train you to intervene with an individual who is thinking about suicide. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop—anyone 18 or older can learn and use the ASIST model. Participants must attend both days all day to get the certification. There will be a one hour break for lunch each day. Lunch is not included, but there are many lunch options close to the training venue. If you have previously taken Community Helpers please upload your certificate to your profile, or email it to fcss@cochrane.ca. This ASIST program is free with proof of current Community Helpers Program certificate. Please use promo code communityhelpers when registering.
